HIDOE E-School provides standards-based, online classes for Hawaii's students. Students enrolled in any HIDOE public school (which includes charter schools) can take these supplemental online courses in addition to their regular classes.
Here's how schools can support students and their parents:
- Provide an onsite contact, the School Site Facilitator, for students taking E-School courses. This contact will serve as the liaison between the school and E-School. The School Site Facilitator is an advocate for both the student and the teacher, and their role plays an integral part in these courses.
- Provide E-School courses as an appropriate educational option.
- Notify parents and students of the opportunity and benefits of E-School.
- Adopt policies for identifying students who are suited for success in an online learning environment.
- Verify that the selected course(s) are appropriate based on the academic history, age, and grade level of the student.
- Register students for E-School courses during the regular school year (does not apply to E-School Summer School).
- Provide students access to computers with Internet capability when students are taking E-School courses on the school campus. Inform students taking E-School courses off-campus about appropriate hardware, software, and Internet requirements.
- Accept final course grade(s) as determined by E-School.
- Assume responsibility for students taking E-School Advanced Placement courses with regard to ordering, paying for, and administering Advanced Placement exams in accordance with The College Board guidelines.
- Assume responsibilities for required state-wide test administration such as end-of-course exams, HSA, etc.
