Hardware and Computer Requirements

To be able to access course information, you need proper equipment, computer systems, and technical specifications.

Computer with Internet Capability:  Students are expected to supply their own personal computer with high speed Internet capability to access the course work. In some instances, a school may provide access to a computer to use at the school, either during or after regular school hours. Students should speak to their School Site Facilitator for more information regarding availability and accessibility.

Headsets:  Students will need to have access to a computer that allows the use of headsets (microphone and headphones) or a computer with these built-in capacities (as most laptops have). There are many inexpensive devices available wherever computers are sold and stores such as Radio Shack, WalMart, or Costco. The $5 to $20 devices are certainly adequate.

WebEx Meeting Center Application:  E-School courses utilize a synchronous tool called WebEx to hold live virtual class meetings. Students will need a headset and a microphone to be able to participate in these live meetings. Participants who have never attended a live virtual class session using WebEx before will need to download, install, and configure the WebEx Meeting Center application on their computer. The first time a participant joins a meeting, the Meeting Center application will automatically be installed. However, the following links can be used to manually download and install it.

Download the installer for your operating system:

Or go to: https://hvln.webex.com

Then on the left-hand side, click on Support > Downloads to find the links to download the installer for your operating system.

Software Requirements:  To ensure that your computer is properly configured to run Blackboard, please be sure to run the Browser Check on the HVLN Blackboard site, https://hidoe.blackboard.com > Run Browser Check or go to: http://atr.k12.hi.us/proj_inspire/browsercheck/

Other tools and resources may be utilized by the individual course. Additional hardware and software requirements will be posted in the Course Info section of a student's course.
